Horses are part of our lives - or our livelihoods.
Often, they are both.
They quietly shape our routines, our responsibilities, and our days.
They teach patience, consistency, and care.
They carry children, athletes, workers, and our dreams.
To many, they are more than pets - they are a loved and cherished part of the family.
And yet, much of everyday horse care still relies on guesswork.

"Like many families starting out with horses, we didn't know what we didn't know."
The Hidden Risk in “Doing Our Best”
Most horse owners are deeply committed to doing the right thing.
They ask questions. They seek advice.
They learn over time. They care.
But much of horse care still depends on:
estimation rather than measurement
habits passed down rather than validated facts
scattered advice from many well-meaning voices
Weight is guessed.
Feed is adjusted “by feel.”
Condition is judged “by eye.”
Decisions are made with incomplete information because better systems haven’t been built for everyday use.
Why Better is Needed
Like many families starting out with horses, we didn’t know what we didn’t know.
We often see parents with the best of intentions buy horses for their children without fully understanding what’s involved — financially, practically, or emotionally.
Over time, our own horse journey revealed just how many hidden layers there are.
Here’s a snapshot of what we’ve learned:
Sellers don’t always tell the full story. A horse’s temperament, history, or underlying health issues may only become clear after purchase — and in many cases, it’s very much buyer beware, even when it’s a ‘free lease’ option.
Breed matters. Different breeds come with different characteristics and cautions. For example, thoroughbreds recently off the track can be reactive and may carry medical conditions that are costly to manage.
Environment matters. Poor agistment, inadequate feed, sandy paddocks, or poorly maintained facilities can quickly lead to weight and health issues.
Conditioning takes work. Maintaining a horse’s fitness — particularly for competition or ongoing use — requires more time, knowledge, and consistency than many people expect.
Horses require lifelong care. Supporting a horse’s wellbeing from foal to retirement involves ongoing attention, adjustment, and responsibility.
The equipment list is long. Fencing, supplements, hoof care, rugging, floats, saddles, bits — the practical realities add up quickly.
When care decisions go wrong, the cost can be high.
Not just financially, but in lost riding time, compromised wellbeing, and in the worst cases, the loss of the animal itself.
And beyond the horse, there is always the human factor to consider. Horses are powerful, unpredictable animals. Falls and accidents happen — even to experienced riders.
Better systems don’t replace experience or intuition.
They support them.
Clear, practical tools help owners make more informed decisions, reduce avoidable risk, and care for their horses with greater confidence — wherever they are in their journey.
The Heart of Equessa: caring for your horse
Equessa exists for one simple reason:
To remove guesswork from everyday horse care by translating practical knowledge into simple, trusted digital tools.
Tools designed for:
Real horses and their unique needs
Everyday owners, not just professionals
Lives where care must fit alongside work, family, holidays and weather.
Even better when the knowledge you’ve built over time can be shared with the people who help support your horses’ care.
Built From Real Life
Equessa didn’t begin as a business idea.
It began at a kitchen table, as part of a homeschool project.
With curiosity, necessity, and a love of horses driving every one of our decisions.
"Our focus is on what supports the health, comfort, and long-term care of the horse."
That origin matters.
Because it keeps Equessa grounded in why we are here and what we will always be about.
The Equessa Commitment
The wellbeing of horses
Every decision starts with what supports the health, comfort, and long-term care of the horse in all the ways they are part of our lives.
Supporting the people who care for them
We exist to give owners clarity, confidence, and practical support.
Connection and safety
We are all about building community, collaborations, better systems and supporting safer outcomes.
Simplicity over complexity
It is always about keeping things clear and simple, not harder. Practical beats perfect.
Keeping the joy
Horses bring a sense of wonder, freedom, and connection. We want to keep that magic alive forever.
It’s for those who believe that good care is the foundation of everything else.
